Ben Simmons is looking to make his Brooklyn debut in 2022 after missing the entire 2021-22 season with injury and mental health concerns. The versatile guard was traded from the Sixers to the Nets midway through the year, and the fans in NYC are eager to see their new addition on the court.

At least, they were.

A now viral video is circulating social media showing Simmons airballing a jump shot at a recent team event.

Now, the former No. 1 overall pick has looked good in his preseason appearances. He was explosive in his return to the floor, finishing his preseason debut with 6 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds over 19 minutes of action.

But with Simmons, fans are often looking for the negative.

Most of that comes from his missing more than a season with those back and mental health issues. Though he stepped away from his teams while rehabbing, he continued to pick up a paycheck.

Fans believed he’d finally return to the court in last year’s playoffs, with a projected debut being set for Game 4 of the opening series against the Celtics. Rather than join the team, though, Simmons sat out, with rumors arising that he’d left the team text message when asked if he planned to play.

Now, fans have another reason to rib at the guard, taking to social media to troll Simmons on his errant shot.

Social media trolls Ben Simmons for airball

After seeing the video of Ben Simmons shooting an uncontested airball, folks hopped online to post their reactions. Most weren’t kind to either Simmons or the Nets.

This sports account wrote, “Ben Simmons take his one and only shot this season.” If his shootaround attempts go this poorly, they may be right.

Another account posted, “Ben Simmons in prime form already.”

This fan joked, “Ben Simmons been working on his shooting,” after seeing the airball. Not the best look.

A few others joined in on the antagonizing. Take a look at more reaction below.

Tough look for Simmons. Hopefully he gets that cleaned up before the season starts.
