Mic’d Up: Bill Belichick Upset About The Roof During The Super Bowl Shows He Doesn’t Miss The Smallest Detail

Bill Belichick has a .740 winning percentage with the New England Patriots over 19 seasons, plus nine Super Bowl appearances and six championships. You don’t experience this kind of remarkably sustained success without incredible preparation and attention to even the smallest of details. A new video of Belicheck getting upset that the roof was open during Super Bowl 53 shows his awareness of every single factor that could alter his well-prepared gameplan.

The NFL has released this video of Belichick being mic’d up during the 2019 Super Bowl. Before the kickoff even happens, the Patriots coach is already trying to find anything, even the roof being open, that could give the Los Angeles Rams an advantage. Belichick notices that the Super Bowl is about to start, but the retractable roof on the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta is still open. The roof was open so that the fans could enjoy a pre-game flyover. Bill Belichick doesn’t give a care about the flyover or the fans, he planned for the roof to be closed and he wants that damn roof to be closed.

Belichick confronts head referee John Parry prior to kickoff of Super Bowl LIII to see why the roof was still open. Belichick asked Parry, “John, now we’re closing the roof, right?” Parry responds, “Yeah. It’s supposed to be closed right at kickoff.”

“What’s that mean? Before kickoff?” “Belichick asked grumpily. “They wanted to try to time the kickoff with the oculus closing,” Parry replied. “I’m going to delay it a little bit. I would prefer that the roof be completely closed.”

Belichick wasn’t having it and said, “Because there’s a wind factor now.” Parry tells the Pats head coach it takes about eight minutes for the roof to close. Belichick didn’t want there to be one single breeze for one single play after he had prepped for two weeks for the roof being closed. Belichick is combing over even the most minute detail, even if there was a .0037% chance of it affecting the game. That is why Belichick has all those rings.
