Boston has hosted both England and Scotland fans for the World Cup
The Tartan Army may have departed from Boston, but the love affair between the city and the Scotland fans continues. On Tuesday, popular Irish bar The Dubliner closed to get its staff a day off, coincidentally timed to England’s second group stage game against Ghana.
One of the early viral stories of the 2026 World Cup was the party that the Tartan Army threw in Boston — from drinking bars and liquor stores dry to taking over Fenway Park to impressing city workers with how well they cleaned up before leaving.

While it cannot be confirmed that The Dubliner closed its doors either in solidarity with Scottish soccer fans or out of annoyance with the English ones, it’s an eyebrow-raising coincidence nonetheless.
The Dubliner giving their staff the day off on England’s match day at Boston Stadium is elite-level trolling

English fans haven’t even been in the city for 48 hours yet and they already pissed off the restaurant that they took over as their defacto headquarters to the point where the restaurant decided to just completely close for the day. https://t.co/3hvz1LGX59

England played its second group stage game against Ghana at Gillette Stadium — or, as official World Cup broadcasts have called it, “Boston Stadium” — on Tuesday, June 23. The match ended in a 0-0 draw, putting both teams on four points heading into the third and final matchday of the group stage.
Perhaps the most notable storyline from the England-Ghana game was the usually on-point Harry Kane skying a relatively easy opportunity over the crossbar in the closing stages of the match, leading some soccer fans to speculate that the “curse” placed on him by Ghanaian witch doctor Nana Kwaku Bonsam was effective.
Scotland’s third and final group stage game will be against Brazil in Miami on Wednesday, June 24. Sitting on three points heading into the match, the Tartan Army will be hoping for at least a draw against Brazil in order to secure their place in the knockout rounds. England’s final group stage game will be in New Jersey against Panama on Saturday, June 27.
