Fans of the Scotland national team, otherwise known as the “Tartan Army,” have been one of the best stories of the 2026 World Cup so far. From drinking Boston dry (and cleaning it up afterwards), to overtaking Fenway Park, the Scottish travelers in North America for the World Cup have been stealing the show.

With Scotland playing their opening group stage game at Gillette Stadium on Saturday night — a 1-0 win over Haiti, their first World Cup victory since 1990 — Scottish fans that followed them across the pond took up residence in Boston and beyond and left their mark on the northeast.

Scotland fans, the “Tartan Army,” took over Yankee Stadium just days after doing the same at Fenway Park

On Sunday, the day after their World Cup win, about 5,000 Scotland fans went to Fenway Park to see the Boston Red Sox take on the Texas Rangers, and the resulting scenes were as electric as you’ll see in MLB, far surpassing the usual energy of a regular season baseball game.

With Scotland’s next group stage game scheduled for Friday, the Tartan Army has some time to kill between matches so they made a trip south down I95 to the Bronx to see the Yankees play the Chicago White Sox (and enjoy a 12-2 win for the home team).

Both the Yankees and the Red Sox are iconic sports brands and Fenway Park/Yankee Stadium are famed stadiums, which certainly factors into the Scots showing up to their games. It’d be a different story if they were turning up to see the Kansas City Royals against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Given that traditional heavyweights Brazil are in their group, the Tartan Army is surely thrilled that their team enters the second round of group stage games not only atop the group, but as the only team of the four to have three points.

As a result of their win over Haiti, data puts Scotland at having a 75-85% chance to advance to the knockout rounds.

Scotland’s next group stage match will kick off against Morocco on Friday, June 19 at 6 p.m. EST. That game is also being played in Boston. Their final group stage game will be against Brazil on June 24. A mere draw in either of those games would virtually guarantee Scotland a berth in the knockout stages.
