When it was revealed that Atlanta Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia had been mocking Bryce Harper for his baserunning gaffe after Game 1 of the NLDS, many fans thought it was a mistake.

Arcia reportedly went around the Braves locker room shouting “Atta boy, Harper!” after Atlanta defeated the Phillies.

Much like with other superstars in sports, poking the bear, like Arcia did with Harper, is never a good idea.

On Wednesday, it ended up with Bryce Harper hitting not one, but two moonshot home runs in Philadelphia’s 10-2 win over Atlanta.

After his second home run of the night, and his second staredown of Orlando Arcia as he was rounding the bases, the Atlanta Braves radio broadcasters, Ben Ingram and Joe Simpson, got a little salty.

“Again gave the throat-slashing sign, which, given today’s climate around the world, I’m not sure that’s quite appropriate or what anybody wants to see,” said Simpson.

He then added that the quote attributed to Arcia may not even have been real.

“There was a story attributed to some writer who said he overheard Arcia say something in the locker room that was disparaging about Harper after Game 2,” Simpson continued. “There’s no proof that it was even said. Even the writer said he wasn’t sure that’s what he said. But Harper’s taken it to heart and he’s been glaring at Arcia as he rounds second on both homers.”

Ingram then chimed in, saying, “That was something that was turned into something that it was never meant to be. And even if that were the case, okay, so they enjoyed the fact that they doubled-up Harper in the ballgame. Heaven forbid they show joy in doing that.

“But, when you’re a competitor, you’re looking for anything to drive you. And that’s what Harper has done.”

After the game, Orlando Arcia admitted that he did indeed mock Harper after Game 1.

“He wasn’t supposed to hear it,” Arcia said. “That is why we were talking in the clubhouse.

“I thought whatever is said in the clubhouse, stays in the clubhouse,” Arcia added.

For his part, Bryce Harper took the high road after the game when talking about how he stared daggers through Arcia, not once, but twice as he rounded second base.

“It’s a game. It’s fun. It’s a lotta fun. That’s what it’s all about,” he told the media, echoing what he has been saying for years about baseball.
