The primary job of the mascots that are tasked with patrolling arenas and stadiums around the world is to entertain fans with their cheeky and fun shenanigans, whether it involves launching themselves through hula hoops with the help of a trampoline, gobbling up unsuspecting security guards, or expertly trolling Julia Fox.

However, every once in a while, mascots can go a tad too far—especially when it comes to antagonizing members of the opposing team, which The Raptor learned the hard way when he got put in time out for trying to distract Devin Booker during a game between Toronto and Phoenix earlier this year.

However, that paled in comparison to what went down during a recent match between two soccer teams in Brazil over the weekend.

On Sunday, Atlético Mineiro took on Cruzeiro in a game where no goals were scored until the latter broke the deadlock when Vitor Roque netted a header in the 70th minute.

It’s safe to say that development did not sit well with Atlético mascot Galo Doido, as one of Cruzeiro’s players found himself confronted by an angry man in a rooster costume who temporarily blocked him from celebrating the goal with his teammates.

Atlético ultimately walked away with the win, as the club tied the game on a late penalty kick before sealing the 2-1 victory thanks to a clutch score in extra time. However, the mascot that translates to “Crazy Rooster” took an L for his actions, as he was hit with a one-game suspension over his “intimidating run.”

After the incident, Galo Doido released an unofficial statement on Twitter that (assuming I’m interpreting it correctly) roughly translates to “WE MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE!”

What a world.
