Brent Venables secured his biggest win at Oklahoma against third-ranked Texas in the Red River Shootout Rivalry on Saturday. Although the absurdly long television broadcast proved that college football needs less commercials, Sooners fans were more than happy to watch their team take down the Longhorns — no matter how long it took.

Baker Mayfield was in attendance at the cricket-infested Cotton Bowl and revealed that he is horribly addicted to throwing ‘Horns Down’ at any given moment. The atmosphere was buzzing throughout the entire game. It was a great day for Oklahoma from start to finish.

As could be expected, morale was high in the Sooners locker room after the game. Smiles were big, vibes were tremendous, cigars were out and the celebration was on!

Before the party really got underway, Venables and his players took the time to speak with the media. Postgame press conferences are a lot more fun after a big rivalry win. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel got extremely emotional while talking about what the game meant to him and what it is like playing for his friends and family back in Hawaii.

Then it was Venables’ turn. He was fired up about the victory.

However, as Venables discussed the times throughout his career in which he had to step up in the face of adversity, the 52-year-old made an accidentally explicit quip. His players couldn’t help but laugh.

I’ve been on my knees plenty in this profession, and I’ve always been able to respond the right way.

PAUSE!

Sophomore defensive back Gentry Williams and junior linebacker Danny Stutsman heard what Venables said. They recognized how it came out of his mouth and how funny it was.

Both Williams and Stutsman tried so hard to keep it together.

Their efforts failed. Stifling a laugh was nearly impossible.

Brent Venables did not mean to say what he said how he said it, but what happened happened. Williams and Stutsman will never forget the 2023 Red River Rivalry for more reasons than one!
