One week ago, Bryson DeChambeau was playing in perhaps the most pristine conditions that a golfer could ever ask for at Augusta National Golf Club in The Masters.
Sure, things didn’t exactly go according to plan for DeChambeau. He missed the cut and threw a temper tantrum in the process. But one week later, at LIV Golf Mexico, it appears that life has already gotten much, much worse.
Not only is LIV Golf reportedly on the verge of shutting down entirely, but DeChambeau is left hacking it around a Club de Golf Chapultepec course that he very clearly does not feel is up to his standards.
Bryson DeChambeau Melts Down At LIV Golf Mexico Event
Instagram user @Perisgolf posted a video of DeChambeau playing the 574-yard, par-5 16th hole during his opening round on Thursday.
Unfortunately for DeChambeau, things didn’t go according to plan.
After hitting his drive into the left rough, DeChambeau tried and failed to hit an iron into the green, missing left into a greenside bunker. He then sent his bunker shot flying entirely over the green into the rough on the other side.
That’s when things really got messy.
DeChambeau can be seen complaining about his lie, saying, “You’ve got destroyed grass. Oh, this is rough? Definitely good to see,” before calling over a rules official.
“Guys, this is what we’re playing on, apparently,” he then says before the rules official arrives and tells him that he has to play the shot as it lies.
Eventually, DeChambeau managed to get up and down and save par. But he finished the day with an even par score of 71, nine shots behind leader Carlos Perez.
Right now, DeChambeau is probably wishing for an immediate LIV Golf shutdown. Perhaps it would offer him a path back to the PGA Tour, much like Brooks Koepka.
Although the odds are he’d be left standing on the sidelines for the rest of the season, wondering why he didn’t just stay with the PGA Tour when he had the chance.
