LIV Golf is currently in the midst of its fifth season of operation, and it does not have much to show for the billions of dollars that have been funneled into the venture. Now, it sounds like it may not even make it to the end of the current campaign, as multiple insiders are speculating that an announcement concerning its end is imminent.
In 2022, LIV Golf officially set out on its quest to take on the PGA Tour after poaching a number of notable names who were offered hundreds of millions of dollars to defect. The upstart league faced plenty of criticism thanks in no small part to its links to Saudi Arabia, but it seemed confident it could overcome the critics and doubters while establishing a legitimate competitor.
However, that has not turned out to be the case.
LIV Golf has spent years trying (and failing) to move the needle when it comes to television ratings and making its events part of the cultural conversation, and the various tweaks it’s made in an attempt to improve the product (including a pivot from a 54-hole format to traditional four-day tournaments) have fallen flat.
It has also started to bleed talent as the PGA Tour has opened the door for golfers, including Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed, to return, and as things currently stand, Bryson DeChambeau is really the only marketable name at its disposal.
Now, it looks like its years-long battle to justify its existence may be coming to an end…along with the league as a whole.
Multiple insiders have asserted LIV Golf is about to shut down
On Tuesday night, Ryan French of Monday Q Info dropped a fairly cryptic tweet where he advised people to keep an eye out for “a bombshell announcement on LIV’s future” while implying the clock was running out.
Ive heard from multiple sources that a bombshell announcement on LIVs future is imminent.
We don’t give out gambling advice but If your’re a prediction market type person I would bet the under of whatever they have posted.

He elaborated on that message during a conversation with The Takesmen, saying, “I have some very good sources, and I’ve heard that other people have sources, that LIV is shutting down,” adding the situation was dire to the point where it may not even go through with the event that’s slated to kick off at Club de Golf Chapultepec outside of Mexico City on Thursday.
Kevin Van Valkenburg of Fried Egg also seemed to imply he was aware of similar rumblings while resurfacing an article discussing the writing that has been on the wall.

The Telegraph also added fuel to the flames by reporting the league has called executives to New York City for an “emergency meeting.”
On Wednesday morning, Flushing It pushed back against the chatter while saying the Mexico City tournament will go on as planned (the league also dropped a promo for the event around the same time).
I’ve spoken directly to multiple people within LIV Golf who all say they have had no issue with being paid. Future venues are proceeding as normal, with no indication that anything will change. And players are getting ready to tee it up in today’s pro am, fully expecting LIV Golf… https://t.co/rTemsLNeOF pic.twitter.com/MLzonddC2s

No official announcement has been issued as of this writing, but it appears one will be coming before too long.
