We can always rely on Selection Sunday to produce a fair amount of drama after learning which teams earned the chance to play in the NCAA Tournament—and, more notably, those who will be forced to settle for the NIT and watch the real March Madness unfold from afar.

Texas A&M was firmly on the bubble prior to the start of the SEC Tournament, but it did about all that it could to make its case after defeating Florida in an overtime thriller in the first game before mounting an impressive run by beating top-seeded Auburn as well as Arkansas before getting trounced by Tennessee in the championship game.

The Aggies would’ve earned an automatic bid if they’d managed to walk away with the win in that final contest, but it seemed like they’d put themselves in a pretty solid position to earn an invite. However, they ended up on the outside looking in when everything was said and done—a development that head coach Buzz Williams was obviously less than thrilled with.

Texas A&M did accept an invite to the NIT, and after beating Alcorn State by a score of 74-62 on Tuesday night, Williams used the postgame press conference as an opportunity to sound off on the snub with an impassioned statement where he ripped the selection committee for its lack of transparency and stated “the process is obviously flawed.”

It would appear Williams devoted just as much (and possibly more) time to calling attention to this supposed miscarriage of justice as he did preparing for Tuesday’s matchup, as he also gave reporters a copy of the nine-page packet he put together filled with stats highlighting why the Aggies deserved to make the cut.

Sure, this is a problem that could’ve been avoided if Texas A&M hadn’t gone on an eight-game losing streak earlier in the season or beaten Tennessee instead of losing by 15, but you’ve got to respect the passion.
