The Indiana Fever selected Iowa superstar Caitlin Clark with the first overall pick at Monday’s WNBA Draft. While that choice came as no surprise, the franchise’s merchandise department had trouble filling orders.

The team store’s social media outlets gave an update on jersey sales about an hour after Clark was drafted. They’d already sold out!

“Due to extreme demand, Caitlin Clark jerseys are currently out of stock,” a post read at 9:50 PM ET. “We are working through supply chain issues to get more in stock as soon as possible. Sign up for our email and SMS lists below to be notified when new product arrives.”

This came despite everyone in the sports world knowing Clark would go at that top spot. It’s been common knowledge for the last month it seems.

That didn’t matter!

Buyers saw similar results from other sellers, including Fanatics.

The Caitlin Clark effect!

Clark is the most popular name in the sport following her record-breaking career at Iowa. Racking up 3,951 points across four seasons with the Hawkeyes, she’s the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer.

Additionally, she made back-to-back national championship appearances in her junior and senior years to provide incredible exposure to her college program.

Now, she’s already doing the same for the Fever!

Her new team has already benefitted from an uptick in ticket sales, even before she’s suited up for a single game. It looks like the merchandise department should expect a similar boom!
