Five-star wide receiver Calvin Russell is one of the hottest names on Florida recruiting boards this offseason. The talented high school pass catcher is planning to commit to his program of choice on July 5th.
He’s currently going through the process of official visits, taking trips to three of the state’s P4 powers. This week, he stopped by both Miami and Florida State.
Russell is currently ranked as the third-best player at his position in the 2026 class. He boasts offers from every major program in the country, though five finalists are standing out.
The receiver, who hails from Miami, is a two-sport athlete that plans on playing basketball in college, too. He’s wrapping up a string summer visits. Those included stops at Florida, LSU, and Oregon before ending with the ‘Canes and ‘Noles.
Calvin Russell was at Miami on Friday. It’s the school his mom, Hurricanes Hall of Fame women’s hooper Chanivia Broussard, attended from 2000-2004.
Here’s what he had to say after his visit:
“It was a nice visit. I got to know Miami a bit better… I really got to see the more versatile part of the program, like it’s fun and business at the same time. I definitely feel better about Miami.”
-Calvin Russell
The Hurricanes are trying to pitch Russell on becoming a “Hometown Hero.” Rival Florida State, meanwhile, is doing its best to bring him to Tallahassee.
Calvin Russell arrived for a multi-day visit at Florida State on Sunday.
A few days after his trip to Miami, Russell traveled up the road to FSU. While there, it seemed the ‘Canes were still on his mind.

Russell posted pictures from a photoshoot with Miami while on campus in Tallahassee. Many on social media took it as disrespect.
“Tweeting this out while on an official visit to Florida State is nasty work,” one online commenter wrote. It was a feeling expressed by a number of ‘Noles.
Russell responded to criticism of the Miami post by asking, “I can’t use my phone on downtime?”
Maybe he didn’t have time to post photos of his previous visit while traveling from school to school. Maybe it was a calculated jab at a rival program. Only Russell knows the truth!
Either way, the optics weren’t great. He gained more than a few Florida State haters thanks to his questionable social media antics. That list of adversaries will only grow should he commit to Miami in a few weeks.
