After the NFL Draft concludes, the attention of certain diehard fans turns to what number their favorite team’s newest players are going to wear. Every single player drafted already has a number in their head that they’d like to wear and for Cowboys wideout CeeDee Lamb that number is 10.

Having said that, when Jerry Jones just so happens to be your team’s owner/general manager and drafts you while aboard his $250 million yacht it’s not crazy for him to think he has a say so in what number a player decides to wear.

According to Blogging The Boys, Jones wants Lamb to wear No. 88, the same number that Cowboy greats Dez Bryant, Drew Pearson, and Michael Irvin just so happened to wear.

It turns out that Jones not only wants Lamb to wear the 88 jersey because of the history behind the digits from a franchise standpoint, but he also explained that it had to do with honoring his late friend and teammate Jerry Lamb. Lamb and Jones won a national championship together at Arkansas.

“And so when we were, this is a little drama from our perspective, when we were all sitting there and had said our piece, and then we said, ‘okay, what’s it going to be?” I said in honor of my great friend that just passed this year we’re going to have his namesake come on here and wear old number 88,” Jones explained. “Just like Michael and Dez and those guys, and we’ve got us a wide receiver. And let me tell you one thing if he’s got the competes and heart of that Jerry Lamb he’ll be bad to the bone.”

I’m just going to go out on a limb here and say that if Jones really does approach Lamb and asks him to wear No. 88 then Lamb is going to wear No. 88.

It would be wildly unlikely to see some sort of drama come between Lamb and Jones due to a simple jersey number, but then again this is the Dallas Cowboys we’re talking about here.
