Chad Johnson received an uncomfortable welcome to Qatar on Thursday, being reprimanded by security upon landing in the Middle Eastern country.

The former NFL wideout was seen travelling to the host site of the World Cup this week, but he accidentally broke one rule when walking through the airport.

Chad Johnson was warned for showing public affection in Qatar, which had him feeling like he could possibly be arrested.

Ocho Cinco posted the following message on his Twitter account after arriving to Qatar.

“I just got reprimanded (warning) in Qatar for showing display of affection in the airport, had no idea it was frowned upon, people had me nervous like I was going to jail.”

The country is well-known for its strict policies on a number of different topics, public affection being one of them. Qatar deems public drunkenness, wearing revealing clothing, and homosexuality illegal, too.

Johnson was apparently not familiar on the laws, and he nearly paid a high price for the incident. Nobody wants to be arrested in a foreign country.

His experience has many reacting with the upcoming soccer championship soon to kick off.

One person commented, “Over/under foreigners arrested during the World Cup?” after hearing of Johnson’s experience, with another fan replying, “The jails are gonna be packed in November/December.”

Another follower wrote, “World Cup: No booze, no PDA. Awesome.” Sounds like a blast.

Others shared that sentiment.

Johnson wouldn’t have been the first US athlete to be reprimanded in a foreign country. WNBA star Brittney Griner was arrested for having .7 grams of THC in Russia earlier this year.

If you plan on heading over for the World Cup, make sure you’re up to speed on the rules.
