Jizzle James's future at Charlotte is unclear.

Jizzle James is still listed on the Charlotte basketball roster. That did not stop the 49ers from adding a new guard to the fold.

The program landed a commitment from Chaze Harris this week. Is it a backup plan or does head coach Wes Miller already know something that’s not being said publicly?

Charlotte has not posted an update on Jizzle James’s status with the team. According to the online roster, nothing has changed. His bio is still active. He is listed as one of the 49ers‘ 13 players.

James’s social media activity, however, insinuates there’s been a change.

Is Jizzle James still on the Charlotte basketball team?

Again, the current online roster would suggest yes. Above is the transfer guard’s bio, still active on the athletics site.

His online accounts say otherwise. Last week, James posted a series of cryptic messages on Instagram, one in which he referred to himself as a “free agent.”

James appeared to be in Houston at the time of the post, which came a week after the university started class. He was 1,000 miles away from campus.

He’s continued to post photos of his current whereabouts, none of which reference the Charlotte basketball team. His most recent Instagram story showed him wearing a Cincinnati Bearcats jersey.

James played for the Bearcats in each of the last three seasons. That tenure was filled with drama.

Last year, he was dismissed from the team in the offseason. After threatening to transfer, he returned in December.

Head coach Wes Miller was fired at season’s end. James followed him to Charlotte for his senior year. His stay in North Carolina could be short-lived.

The social media activity created confusion. The guard fueled to transfer speculation by suggesting he planned to return to Cincinnati.

He added the Bearcats’ basketball handle to his X bio. He said he planned to contact coach Jerrod Calhoun to finalize the move. Calhoun told the Cincinnati Enquirer that he has not spoken to James.

Going a step further, James’s father, NFL legend Edgerrin, shut down the possibility of a transfer. “Disregard. He’s trolling,” he said in response to the social media posts.

Through it all, Charlotte has remained silent. Wes Miller has not commented on James’s future. His status on the roster has not changed. That did not stop the 49ers from adding a potential backup plan.

Chaze Harris commits to Charlotte.

Harris is the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Year. He scored a touch under 20 points per game at South Alabama last year. He is headed to Charlotte for the 2026 season.

Is it confirmation of Jizzle James’s imminent exit? Are the 49ers simply adding more talent to the roster? We don’t know given the program’s silence.

Edgerrin James added another layer to the drama with his latest Instagram post.

A clip showed a workout session with his son. Al Green’s “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” is playing atop the video. The song choice is notable. See lyrics below.

Everything is gonna be alright / He’s coming back / Like he said he would

Are the lyrics a cryptic message on a return to Cincinnati? Is he planning to return to Charlotte after a brief hiatus? Is this simply a positivity post on his personal life?

Whatever the case, Jizzle James is working on his future. We’ll soon see if that includes college basketball.
