49ers defensive back Charvarius Ward won the Super Bowl in 2020 with the team he will play against in Las Vegas next week, against his current team. The former undrafted free agent spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs before signing with San Francisco.

Now, in his second year with his new team, Ward will face his old team in the Super Bowl. This is his third time playing in The Big Game, and he’s going for his second ring.

Charvarius Ward knows what he is doing.

This is not his first rodeo and he plans to rely on his support system to remain calm over the next 10 days or so, in addition to his regular routine of reading and meditation. He also looks forward to being a mentor for his teammates who have not been through this experience before.

However, the team may not want Ward to pass his teachings onto others after his comments about the week prior to kickoff. He said that he “might turn up a little bit” on the first day or two in Las Vegas before he “really just locks in.”

Ward’s comments are probably not what the 49ers coaching staff or the front office wants to hear. The league is housing both Kansas City and San Francisco outside of the city to keep players from getting in trouble and they can’t be thrilled to hear him declare his intentions to “turn up a little bit” either.

However, Ward has been here before and won a ring. He obviously knows what he is doing and firmly stated that “you know you don’t want to f— up in the Super Bowl” so it’s not like he’s taking it lightly. It is also not that uncommon for players to engage in some recreational activities on the Monday or Tuesday prior to a game on Sunday.

Still.

This is the Super Bowl. This is the last game of the year for all of the marbles.

Even though it is being played in Las Vegas, maybe Charvarius Ward should hold off on turning up until he’s on the field on Sunday night. Maybe he should take this week off?
