This Jaw-Dropping Mixtape From The Chicago Bulls’ 72-Win Season Is Like Watching Poetry In Motion

Comparing the ’96-’96 Bulls to this year’s Warriors squad is a futile exercise. Scottie Pippen believes that his Bulls team would sweep Golden State in a seven game series, which is comical considering it’s as good as fact there has never been a basketball team in any era that could sweep either of these two teams, unless Steph Curry plays with mittens on and Jordan plays today.

Regardless, I was only 8 years old when Chicago went on its historical run and this highlight reel is a reminder of just how powerful and cohesive that unit was. It looks so smooth and poetic, it almost looks scripted. And Pippen’s saltiness toward the Golden State record should be forgiven, considering that Jordan’s shadow makes many of us forget that he’s one of the best small forwards to even play the game.

Whenever my bank account dips into negatives, at least I can hang my hat on the fact that I was alive for two of the best NBA teams ever assembled. So there’s that.

Matt’s love of writing was born during a sixth grade assembly when it was announced that his essay titled “Why Drugs Are Bad” had taken first prize in D.A.R.E.’s grade-wide contest. The anti-drug people gave him a $50 savings bond for his brave contribution to crime-fighting, and upon the bond’s maturity 10 years later, he used it to buy his very first bag of marijuana.
