The Chicago Cubs had a disappointing 2022 season.

They’ve wasted no time this offseason making sure they don’t have another one in 2023.

They already landed Cody Bellinger in free agency this offseason, signing him to a 1-year deal worth $17.5 million.

Now it looks like they’re going out and getting themselves another star.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Cubs are finalizing a deal with Dansby Swanson.

Swanson made his name as a member of the Atlanta Braves and has been a stud defensive shortstop for them for the last 7 years. He made his first All-Star game appearance this past season and won the first Gold Glove of his career.

He’ll also bring some pop at the plate to the Cubs. He has hit at least 25 home runs in each of the past two seasons and has racked up 184 RBIs in that time.

The Cubs went into a rebuild at the trade deadline in 2021, but it looks they’re already ready to try and compete again.

It will take more pieces to try and get themselves back in contention after a couple of years under .500, but landing Swanson and Bellinger is a pretty good start to getting this franchise back into the playoffs.
