The Chicago Cubs are one of Major League Baseball’s most historic franchises.

When they won the World Series in 2016, it broke an astonishing 106-year drought for the franchise.

But the years since haven’t been all that great to the Cubbies. Slowly but surely, Chicago began to see the downside of going all-in (still worth it).

The Cubs made the NLCS in 2017 and lost in the Wild Card round in 2018. But they’ve missed the playoffs in all but one of the years since and failed to win 80 games in either of the last two seasons.

So far, 2023 has proved to be a mixed bag in the early going. Chicago is 4-4 through eight games and sits in third place in the National League Central.

One way to make watching a bad team more bearable is through a great stadium experience. Of course, playing at Wrigley Field does a lot to help that cause.

But the Cubs are going above and beyond.

Owen Poindexter of Front Office Sports reports that Chicago will be the first team in Major League Baseball to sell CBD drinks at its ballpark.

CBD, which is short for Cannabidiol, is one of the major compounds found in marijuana. It’s said to help users relax and its usage has become more common among athletes in recent years.

“The Cubs are working with Chicago-based MYND Drinks, which will have signage and beverages in three flavors at Wrigley Field. The product met the criteria for working with MLB teams by receiving the NSF Certified for Sport designation,” Poindexter reported.

Major League Baseball removed marijuana from its banned substance list in 2019 and became the “first major sports league with a CBD sponsor, having linked up with CBD company Charlotte’s Web in an exclusive multiyear deal inked last October,” per Poindexter.

The Cubs may not be very good in 2023. But going to games just got a little more fun.
