Since the team lost in week one to the Lions in a game where All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones and All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce didn’t play, the Kansas City Chiefs had been rolling along. And, a lot of that has been with Travis Kelce’s new girlfriend, Taylor Swift, in the crowd.
Taylor Swift has attended four Chiefs games, with the defending Super Bowl champions winning all four. And, Travis Kelce has been a better player with Swift in attendance, too. Coming into Week 8’s game against the Broncos, he was average around 40 yards more with Swift in attendance than when she is absent.
After last week’s win against the Chargers, head coach Andy Reid even said that Swift was welcome to any Chiefs game she wants to attend, not that she needed his permission.
Taylor Swift was not in attendance in snowy Denver on Sunday, and obviously that’s not why they lost, but the Chiefs looked absolutely terrible, especially on offense. They mustered just nine points against a very gettable Broncos defense, and had four turnovers, plus a muffed punt. Patrick Mahomes was battling illness, and made some plays, but threw two interceptions as the offense didn’t find the end zone.
As for Kelce, it wasn’t that he was bad by any means. He had six catches for 58 yards on nine targets. That’s not bad, but he’s averaging nearly 100 yards a game with Swift in attendance.
The Chiefs had won sixteen straight games against the Broncos before the loss on Sunday. Now, they will head to London to take on the Miami Dolphins in a wildly important AFC game next Sunday.
As for Swift, she’s wrote plenty of songs about guys from Britain. Will she travel there to watch her current boyfriend play? Only time will tell.
