Christian McCaffrey “nixed” his fiancé Olivia Culpo’s Super Bowl surprise this week, filling the media in on his reasoning ahead of the NFL’s big game.
The 49ers tailback reportedly laid down the law, despite the fact that the gesture was made as a generous birthday gift for his mom, Lisa.
Lisa McCaffrey went viral ahead of Super Bowl LVIII for comments made about the outrageous ticket costs.
Prices reportedly started around $6,000 in what’s shaping up to be the most expensive Super Bowl event to date.
Lisa joked that even her family, which includes Christian, his father former NFL WR Ed, and model Culpo, couldn’t afford the sky-high prices to purchase a suite.
“We looked into a suite and none of us can afford it,” she said on her Your Mom podcast. “Not even Christian, moneybags over there nor moneybags Olivia.”
Those luxury boxes range from $300K all the way up to $2.5M and the McCaffrey’s were priced out!
While those suites offer a great view, full menu, and comfortable seating, the going rate is far too pricey for most casual fans. And apparently, for some players and their families, too!

In an attempt to surprise Lisa with an early birthday gift, Olivia Culpo decided to buy a box to allow the McCaffrey family to watch Super Bowl LVIII in style.
Unfortunately, that attempt was thwarted shortly thereafter by the man set to play in the game. After seeing the news of that suite purchase go viral, Christian McCaffrey nixed the idea.
“She tried to, but I will not let anybody pay to watch me play. I had to nix that,” he said at Allegiant Stadium.
While it seems a box is now out of the picture, Lisa and the rest of the McCaffreys are sure to be in attendance come Super Bowl Sunday as they root Christian on in his first NFL title game.
