The University of Cincinnati has responded to Brendan Sorsby’s agent claiming the school knew about the quarterback’s gambling while he played there.
Earlier this week, Brendan Sorsby’s agent, Ron Slavin, made allegations that the University of Cincinnati prioritized football success over his client’s gambling addiction.
According to reports, the school learned about the quarterback’s sports betting in 2025, but it took little to no action. Slavin has since alleged that the Bearcats’ knowledge of Brendan Sorsby’s gambling dates back one year prior, claiming they “knew for two years and never said anything and didn’t do anything about it.”
The University of Cincinnati responded to Slavin’s claims in a statement
“We will reiterate what we have said before,” ESPN reports Cincinnati said. “All of our student-athletes receive extensive gambling education multiple times throughout the year, and we would never knowingly play an athlete who violated NCAA sports wagering regulations. If we ever became aware of impermissible wagering, we would report to the NCAA and comply with sanctions.”
Court documents state that on August 19, 2024, the University of Cincinnati was notified of Sorsby’s wagering on the daily fantasy website PrizePicks. The documents state that Sorsby told the school he had not placed any bets and that his access to the site had been denied when they questioned him.
Sorsby has acknowledged making over 9,000 wagers, some of which were on Indiana University during his time as a Hoosiers reserve in 2022 and 2023. Thus far, there is no proof that he intentionally gave gamblers privileged information, manipulated his performance, or used insider knowledge to make his wagers.
Cincinnati is suing Brendan Sorsby for breach of contract, claiming that his transferring to Texas Tech caused the school to suffer damages exceeding $1 million. Sorsby had obtained an injunction that allowed him to play for Texas Tech despite the NCAA deeming him ineligible due to his gambling. He has since decided to enter the NFL’s supplemental draft (while still keeping all of the NIL money the Red Raiders paid him, despite not playing a game for them).
