CJ Bailey appeared to promote a Cash App scam in a suspicious video posted to his Instagram story earlier this week. The third-year starting quarterback at North Carolina State claims he was hacked.
However, his “endorsement” raises a lot of questions.
How did the college football quarterback lose access to his account? Was he responsible for the hack or was it generated by artificial intelligence?
CJ Bailey is a rising star.
Bailey committed to North Carolina State out of Hollywood, Florida as a three-star prospect in the recruiting Class of 2024. He chose the Wolfpack over schools like Indiana, Georgia Tech and Miami and immediately earned the starting job upon arrival to Raleigh.
The true freshman signal-caller completed 65% of his passes for 2,413 yards and 17 touchdowns with 279 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns on 99 carries in 2024. It was a good first year of college football but CJ Bailey struggled with interceptions and N.C. State finished at 6-7.
Last season was a big step forward. Bailey transformed into a certified freak by adding an astonishing amount of muscle to his frame before fall camp. He completed 69% of his passes for 3,105 yards and 25 touchdowns and ran for 215 yards and six touchdowns on 89 carries as a sophomore. He also threw one less interception.
The Wolfpack went 8-5 overall in 2025 and 4-4 in the ACC. It expects to compete for a conference championship in 2026 with Bailey as a junior. He is a dark horse Heisman Trophy candidate.
North Carolina State’s quarterback got hacked.
The following video was posted to CJ Bailey’s Instagram story. It promotes a Cash App scam tied to a “woman” named “Lexi.” He encouraged his followers to message “her” about the investment opportunity, which may or may not be tied to Bitcoin. It is “no bs no scam.”
A day after Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby headed to rehab for a gambling addiction, NC State QB CJ Bailey is promoting a scam on his Instagram.

I reached out to North Carolina State for more information. I received the following response:
“CJ’s accounts were hacked this week.”
Just as we all suspected, it was a bogus scam. But I have a few questions about the video. It appears as though Bailey filmed a selfie video. He even throws his thumb up at the end. That makes me wonder…
- Did Bailey get exploited into posting on his story?
- Did he personally fall for the scam and post the video to his story thinking that he would get paid because of it?
- Was the video generated by artificial intelligence?
Either Bailey himself got fooled by the scam and tried to cash-in on the fake money, had someone blackmail him into posting, or had his Image and Likeness transformed by a computer to coincide with the scam. I cannot think of any other situations where this video would get posted to his story.
Can you? Let me know your theory at Grayson@BroBible.com!
The first two scenarios are not great. The third scenario is terrifying. If the video is not real, most people would not be able to detect the A.I.-generated video on their first watch. Myself included.
It took me a few rewatches to notice the oddities of his movements. Bailey was either extremely nervous while filming the video or the video was faked by A.I. We may never know the full truth.
