Clemson fans cheered during a blowout loss after seeing Kentucky beat South Carolina.

The Clemson football program showed the final play of South Carolina’s loss to Kentucky on the videoboard during the Tigers’ most recent game. Fans cheered watching the Gamecocks go down in dramatic fashion.

It was probably the loudest Death Valley got on Saturday night. The home team was beaten convincingly at the hands of Miami.

The program is now being trolled on social media for the rivalry antics. The optics weren’t great!

South Carolina lost on the last play of the game.

The Gamecocks hosted Kentucky in Columbia on Saturday afternoon. A familiar scene played out in Williams-Brice Stadium.

South Carolina was up 17-0 in the first half. It would lose, 35-34.

Kentucky stormed back in the second half to erase the three-score deficit. The Wildcats converted a two-point play in overtime to win.

That contest kicked off at 4:20 PM ET. It ended just after 8:00 PM, about a half-hour after Clemson started its matchup with Miami.

Clemson fans cheered for Kentucky.

At the time the clip was played, the Tigers were already losing thanks to a one-play touchdown drive on Miami’s opening possession.

Cooper Barkate took a screen pass 61 yards for a touchdown score. It was 7-0 Miami less than two minutes into the contest.

The lead would only grow as the game went on. Clemson eventually lost, 41-13.

As a result of that final outcome, the Tigers are being trolled online for mocking the Gamecocks despite a forgettable performance of their own.

Most Clemson fans had little hope of an upset against Miami. They’d accepted their fate before kickoff. They are fully aware of their mediocrity.

A loss was imminent, so they turned to another source for a brief moment of joy. I can’t say I blame them.

Both teams have issues.

South Carolina is a mess five games into the season. It’s already blown a pair of 16+ point leads to SEC opponents at home. It was also manhandled by Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Though the offense is scoring 37.6 points per game, quarterback LaNorris Sellers has been inconsistent. The wide receivers have underperformed. The main issue, however, is the defense.

The unit has been downright awful, allowing 41.6 points a night in conference play, and its best player is sidelined amid an indefinite suspension after punching an opponent.

As it stands, the Gamecocks are 2-3. The heat is cranking up on head coach Shane Beamer’s seat. Two hours up the road, Dabo Swinney also finds himself in hot water.

The product that he’s put on the field thus far has been underwhelming. Clemson is 3-2 with two blowout losses to Miami and LSU. Mixed in are sloppy wins over UNC, Cal, and Georgia Southern. Its issues are on the offensive side of the ball.

The Tigers rank 118th nationally in scoring at a clip less than 20 points per game. The Palmetto Bowl has the all the makings of a stoppable force meeting a moveable object in the season finale.

By the looks of it, this year’s rivalry will not have any major postseason implications. The winner might just make a bowl game!

Neither fanbase is happy with its team’s performance. It leaves both sides searching for any reason to cheer. The Gamecocks provided the Tigers with temporary glee over the weekend. It’s the little things in life.

Clemson seems to have accepted its status as a middle of the road ACC program in the 2026 campaign. It’s taking more enjoyment in a rival’s anguish than in being competitive on the football field.

As for the outlook of this season and beyond, neither team appears to be trending up. It’s going to be a long season in the state of South Carolina this fall.

The Gamecocks will have an opportunity to quiet Clemson fans in Death Valley come November. That would be something to hang their hats on in what’s likely another losing campaign.

At the moment, both programs are punchlines. We’ll see which side gets local bragging rights at season’s end.
