On New Year’s Day, the number one ranked Clemson Tigers will head down to New Orleans to face off against the fourth-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide in the Sugar Bowl. Bama will set out to get revenge after Clemson’s stunning fourth-quarter comeback in last year’s championship game, while the Tigers will do everything in their power can to make the governor of Alabama declare January 2nd a day of mourning.
The game will mark the third year in a row that the two teams have met each other in the playoffs, with each of their respective victories being decided by less than a touchdown. The Crimson Tide are three-point favorites heading into the contest, and it’s hard to imagine this matchup won’t be as thrilling as the previous two.
While they might technically be the underdogs, the city of Clemson is already gearing up for a potential win in the best way possible.
Fox Carolina reports members of the town’s city council voted to permit fans to flock downtown to watch the National Championship on the big screen. However, it’s likely most people will be more excited by another ordinance that was passed that will suspend open container laws on the night of the game.
It’s worth noting there is one catch: fans won’t be allowed to bring their own booze to College Avenue, so they’ll have to buy drinks from nearby bars and restaurants. With that said, getting drunk and doing what you can to bolster the local economy seems like a win-win to me.
