The NBA Draft kicks off on Thursday and thank goodness that’s the case, as the rumor mill continues to remain on fire.

With all eyes on the Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Pelicans, and Miami Heat, another team has been thrown into the mix of rumors around the league.

According to Marc Stein, the Los Angeles Clippers are considering breaking up Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Reports claim the front office is gauging team’s interest in George.

If that’s the case, then perhaps the Trail Blazers have another potential trade option on Thursday night. On the other hand, plenty of teams across the league should be interested in the star forward.

At the same time, it’s a bit odd to see the Clippers enter the rumor mill so late. Especially considering many believe the team is one piece away from being a legitimate contender. Finding a way to stay healthy would certainly help too.

On the flip side, George has a bit of an unfavorable contract situation right now. He’s due just over $45 million in the 2023 season and has a player option next year worth just over $48 million.

So, any team trading for him runs the risk of losing him at the end of next season.

It’s possible the Clippers just want to see what the market looks like for George and nothing else, as he and Kawhi Leonard have the potential of being a top duo in the NBA.

But Los Angeles has a chance to gain multiple assets to build around Leonard, and honestly, that sounds like a pretty good plan as well.

With that said, keep a close eye on the Clippers, as they could be a surprise team to trade up in the NBA Draft on Thursday night. Make sure to tune in tomorrow night at 8 P.M. Eastern.
