Colby Covington is currently on a media tour to shed light on his loss to Leon Edwards.

Over the weekend, Covington was dominated for five rounds by Edwards in a one-sided unanimous decision loss at UFC 296.

After the fight, UFC CEO Dana White noted that Covington looked “slow and old” while speaking to the media.

“I guess my take on it, and let me know what you guys think, but when you’re 35 years old or any age in this sport, and you’re like, ‘Yeah, I’m going to wait,’ waiting is never a good idea in this sport,” White said. “This sport doesn’t wait for anybody.

“I think he looked slow tonight. He got outwrestled. Leon looked good. He looked fast. (Covington) Looked like he had trouble dealing with his speed and getting outwrestled, too. And not to mention the fact that Leon absolutely destroyed that leg.”

While Covington believes he did enough to win the fight, he is now claiming that he injured himself early on in the fight.

During an interview with Patrick Bet-David, Covington says he broke his foot 30 seconds into the fight vs Edwards and will release the x-rays as proof.

“I doubled in the strike count, I had over five minutes of control time where he didn’t have one minute. So I feel like I beat him in the fight. I broke my foot 30 seconds into the fight. People don’t know about that yet but the X-rays will be coming out.”

“I have the picture on my phone, the exact moment where it (foot) landed on his elbow. You can feel it swelling up. After the end of the first round I was like, ‘that hurts.’ Usually I sit on the stool and I didn’t want to sit down.”

If true, Covington’s foot injury would explain his terrible performance, but unfortunately, that’s part of the MMA game.
