A Creighton fan who goes by the name ‘Karen McGee’ set the college basketball world on fire with a photo outside of his apartment in Omaha that closely resembled a scene from Russia in the 1930s. By late afternoon on Thursday, even the local university was in on the joke.
The ‘translate’ button on X was working overtime!
Karen hails from Nebraska. She boasts more than 11,000 followers on Elon Musk’s social media platform. The account is part of the greater Burnerverse, where people create a fake persona to post all kinds of ridiculous takes, memes and IRL photos without exposing their true identity.
Karen McGee pretends to be a “mom of two crazy boys, an ex-Wife of a cheating f—head, and a stay-at-home mom with a passion for board games & casseroles.” In reality, she is actually a post-graduate, 20-something male who lives in Omaha and roots for Creighton, Nebraska and Florida State.
He posted a photo from outside of his apartment on Wednesday morning. The snowy view from outside his window features a giant retaining wall and a power station.

People were flabbergasted by the images. They look more like Soviet Russia than the most populous city in the Cornhusker State.
As a result, college basketball fans replied to Karen in the Russian language. And as he went more viral, the use of Russian characters on social media extended far beyond his replies. For example:
привет с высоты!

It completely took over the internet. Everybody in the sports world was talking about the view from Karen’s apartment. Especially the local guys.

The post went so viral that even the official Omaha Men’s Basketball account got in on the trend!

Karen McGee completely took over the college basketball world for approximately 48 hours. He went to work on Friday morning as the most viral sensation on social media and drove right by the power plant.

If you tried to explain this to someone who does not watch college hoops and/or spent a lot of time on X, they would look at you like you are crazy. Those who know, know.
