Disappointing Change To Instagram Caption Casts Doubt Over FCS Programs In College Football 25

EA Sports is set to release the College Football 25 video game at some point this summer. We don’t know exactly when it will drop, but the long-awaited return is set to take place before the end of August.

Unfortunately, despite what took place last week, it does not seem like FCS programs will be included.

That is not new information in many ways. Matt Brown, publisher of the Extra Points newsletter, is perhaps the most valuable source for college football video game news outside of the developer itself. He has long stated that Football Championship Subdivision teams are not going to be featured.

However, some recent activity on social media seemed to indicate otherwise.

EA Sports allowed programs to officially announce that they will be part of the new game on Feb. 15, shortly after the first trailer was posted online. Many FBS schools did.

Multiple FCS schools seemingly did the same, which is where the confusion lies. For example:

Gardner-Webb’s postd to both Instagram and X were especially eye-catching. Their initial caption read: β€œπ™€π˜Ό π™Žπ™₯𝙀𝙧𝙩𝙨 – π™‚π™–π™§π™™π™£π™šπ™§-π™’π™šπ™—π™—β€™π™¨ π™žπ™£ π™©π™π™š π™œπ™–π™’π™š,” which would indicate that the Bulldogs are included in College Football 25.

The post on X has since been deleted. The caption on Instagram has since changed to reflect the unknown.

There are three possibilities here:

  1. FCS programs are not in the game as previously thought.
    • Schools that posted a mock cover were joining in on the social media trend.
  2. FCS programs are in the game, but Gardner-Webb wasn’t supposed to reveal that information.
  3. Only certain FCS programs are in the game and Gardner-Webb is one of them, but wasn’t supposed to say that part out loud.

Nobody outside of EA Sports knows for sure. Brown continues to believe that it is the first possibility. He does not have any reason to think that FCS schools will be part of College Football 25.

With all due respect to Brown, college football fans hope that he is wrong!
