The college football world has been busy lately between conference realignments and NIL deals.

With that said, the Pac-12 Conference is still taking hits after both the USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins left for the Big Ten.

There have been rumors that the Oregon Ducks, Washington Huskies, and even the Utah Utes could be searching for a new conference soon.

However, the latest reports regarding the Pac-12 indicate that the Colorado Buffaloes might be the next team to the leave the conference instead, as rumors are they’re in talks with the Big 12 Conference.

There may be some legitimacy behind these rumors though, which isn’t great news for the Pac-12. According to CBS Sports, “Colorado has been in “substantive” talks with the Big 12 about possibly joining the growing league.”

The entire Pac-12 Conference is essentially on standby while leaders of the program aim to sign a media deal that makes sense.

However, with the lengthy process ongoing, schools are going to search for other options. At the very least, talking with other conferences is a safety net for these schools.

Conversations between Colorado and the Big 12 have reportedly been in person as well, as CBS claims the Buffaloes and the commissioner have “met face-to-face while involved in consistent talks over a period several months.”

Losing Colorado would be a disaster for the Pac-12. Especially considering how much revenue Deion Sanders is going to bring in as the Buffaloes’ head coach.

Although it’s questionable whether the team will be competitive or not remains a mystery, eyeballs are going to be following Sanders’ journey as a head coach in college football.

In the end, this program just wants what is best for Colorado sports. Here’s what Rick George, the Buffaloes athletic director, had to say about the recent report, per CBS Sports.

“We are proud members of the Pac-12. In a perfect world, we’d love to be in the Pac-12, but we also have to do what is right for Colorado at the end of the day.”

With that said, the Pac-12 should probably hurry up and find a media deal that works. Otherwise, the conference is in danger of losing all of its top programs.
