Colorado kicker Alejandro Mata was the hero in the Buffs‘ most recent matchup, hitting the game-winning field goal in the final seconds. The special teamer celebrated with teammates before giving viewers a show with his little dance.

In fact, he did so at the direction of his head coach. After running back to the sidelines, Deion Sanders pushed him back onto the field to do the jig.

Sanders talked about his kicker after that Colorado win, saying, “Mata is Mata. I believe in Mata, why do you think I brought him here? Mata don’t miss.”

Alejandro Mata previously played for Coach Prime at Jackson State, where he went viral for hilariously translating a fiery postgame speech. Now, he’s made headlines with his new team.

The kicker was asked about that celebration in a press conference this week. He praised his head coach for letting him be himself.

“Being able to show who I truly am deep inside is always great, especially with a coach like Coach Prime,” Mata said. “It’s always a blessing.”

The Colorado kicker is off to a great start in Boulder, going a perfect 4-for-4 on his field goal attempts thus far. He’s also made 10-of-11 extra points to account for 22 points.

The Buffs might need him (and his swagger) when they battle Stanford this Friday.
