Major Power 5 College Football Program Reportedly Eyeing Deion Sanders As Next Head Coach

Deion Sanders has become an absolute star in the college football coaching world since being hired by FCS program Jackson State in 2020. Sanders’ ascension is in part due to his on-field success. The Tigers are 26-5 in his three years at the helm and won double-digit games in each of the last two seasons. But his rise is equally due to the success he’s had off the field.

Sanders pulled off the unthinkable when he flipped Travis Hunter, the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2022 class, from Florida State (Sanders’ alma mater) to JSU. He’s also helped turn the Tigers into a national brand with his incredible YouTube channel that shows off the inner workings of the JSU program.

Now it appears one Power 5 program, in particular, wants to bring Sanders on board.

Deion Sanders Reportedly Has ‘Legit Interest’ In Becoming New Head Coach At Colorado

Sanders’ name has come up in relation to the head coaching jobs at both Nebraska and Auburn. But the Huskers just signed Matt Rhule and the Tigers appear to be zeroing in on Hugh Freeze after being shunned by Lane Kiffin.

But Sanders still has at least one more option.

FOX Sports writer Bruce Feldman reported on Saturday morning that the Colorado Buffaloes have offered Sanders their head coaching job. Feldman also says that Sanders has ‘legit interest’ in the Buffs’ job.

“At Colorado, where they’re desperate to pump some life into this program, CU has offered Deion Sanders from Jackson State the job,” he said. “And I’m told he has legit interest in becoming the Buffs’ new head coach.”

Colorado has not made a bowl game since 2016 and has just one victory in 2021. The Buffs fired head coach Karl Dorrell after an 0-5 start. But maybe Sanders is just what they need to kickstart a once proud program.
