Colts Reportedly Considering The Unthinkable By Bringing Jeff Saturday Back And Fans Are Fuming

The overwhelming majority could not believe it when the Colts named former All-Pro center Jeff Saturday their interim head coach in the middle of the season.

Saturday’s lone coaching experience was four years at Hebron Christian Academy in Georgia and he’d never worked for the team in any capacity beyond playing.

The move was almost universally panned. So much so that you had anonymous coaches and executives calling the move “a mockery” of the league.

Those criticisms were briefly quieted when Saturday somehow went out and won his first game in charge. But the silence didn’t last long. Indianapolis finished the season with seven consecutive losses. The Colts ended up with a 4-12-1 record and Saturday went just 1-7 in charge.

Most assumed that was the end of Saturday’s tenure as head coach. Surely Indianapolis would move on and hire someone who actually knows what they’re doing.

But apparently that may not be the case!

Colts Reportedly Delay Coaching Search While Evaluating Jeff Saturday

Jordan Schultz of The Score reported on Thursday that the Colts have yet to officially dive into a coaching search. That’s because, according to Schultz, they’re still considering retaining Saturday.

I’m told #Colts owner Jim Irsay believes Jeff Saturday has the capabilities to be a head coach. That’s why Saturday’s in this position and why Indianapolis might deliberate and take their time with a decision. Saturday would pick his own staff, which he relayed in his interview,” Schultz said in a tweet.

Indianapolis announced it officially interview Saturday on Thursday.

Fans couldn’t believe that the Colts would even consider keeping Saturday in charge.

Colts’ owner Jim Irsay has always been, we’ll call it “unconventional.” But even for Irsay, this would an absolutely stunning move.

Though when you own the team, who’s going to be the one to tell you “no?”
