Cooper Kupp was undoubtedly the breakout star of the most recent NFL season, as the wide receiver realized the prophecy that was foretold by Davante Adams en route to earning Offensive Player of the Year honors and an MVP award for his performance in the Super Bowl where he helped the Rams secure the Lombardi Trophy.
Adams wasn’t the only person who predicted Kupp’s rise to superstardom, as Peyton Manning recently revealed he and Eli used to argue over who got to throw to him when he was a student at their passing academy (which makes the fact that he was overlooked by basically every college program in the country even more baffling).
One of those disputes apparently influenced Rams G.M. Les Snead when it came to his decision to draft Kupp, which seems to have worked out pretty well for all of the parties involved. It’s safe to assume the wideout is grateful for the legendary quarterback’s assist, but as he recently revealed, he would’ve had to thank Manning for helping him out in person until a few months ago thanks to a pretty hilarious misunderstanding.
On Tuesday, the NFL shared a story Kupp told last year concerning the confused reaction he had when he received a picture of him standing next to Manning at the aforementioned camp from a seemingly random number. Kupp continued to get (and subsequently ignore) texts from the mysterious sender for years until he took a closer look and realized Manning was the man behind all of the messages.
After the story made the rounds, Kupp issued a mea culpa on Twitter.

At least it all worked out in the end.
