Dallas Cowboys Make Major Decision On Starting Wide Receiver Michael Gallup

Not all that long ago, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup looked like one of the top No. 2 wideouts in the entire NFL.

Then came an ACL tear mid-way through the 2021 season that turned the Colorado State product into a shell of him.

Now, less than three years later, it appears that Gallup has played his final game for America’s Team.

Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Cowboys looking for a way to ship Gallup out of town.

“A person with knowledge of the discussions told The Dallas Morning News that the Cowboys have given Gallup’s agent, Kevin Robinson, permission to seek a trade,” Watkins writes. “The Cowboys have been complimentary of Gallup this offseason, but if he’s on the roster March 17, $4 million of his $8.5 million base salary for 2024 will become guaranteed.

Trading Gallup before then would have the trading team pick up the remaining three years of his contract.”

Gallup signed a 5 year, $57.5 million contract with Dallas even after his ACL injury. His injury left the team in a dire spot at the wide receiver position. But the big-bodied wideout has caught just 73 passes for 842 yards and six touchdowns combined over the past two seasons.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said just last week that the team wasn’t necessarily ready to move on from Gallup.

We don’t have a decision that we would like to talk about right now,” Jones said, via Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News. “It’s one that we will be going over with him. Nothing we would say without him being involved. We need to sit down and go over stuff with him before we talk about what we’re going to do with him.”

But it appears that attitude has since changed.

Now it appears that one of Dak Prescott’s former favorite targets will have to find work elsewhere in order to continue his NFL career.
