Rookie center Victor Wembanyama is going to pose a problem for NBA shooters. With his incredible length, the 7-4 big man will force players to alter their shots both in the paint and on the outside.

Fans will get to see their first look at Wembanyama as a pro when the Spurs take on the Mavericks in the season opener.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Wembanyama possesses a unique blend of size and athleticism. He has the ability to use finesse to get to the basket while boasting the height to convert around the rim.

That size will prove beneficial on the defensive end of floor, too, as he’ll force opponents to create new shot angles in order to get around his insane wingspan.

With that in mind, the Mavericks are already preparing players for those contested shots. Coaches were seen in a recent practice session wearing arm extenders to simulate Wembanyama’s length.

Fans were quick to comment.

“Guess they’re not ready,” one follower wrote in response to seeing all the missed shots.

“The Wemby effect,” someone else said.

“These will become a must have for all teams,” this person replied.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen the practice tactic used, but there could be a bit more emphasis put on contested shots for teams getting ready to face the Spurs.

We’ll see if the “Victor Wembanyama” drill pays off for the Mavericks in the season opener on Wednesday.
