Free-agent running back Dalvin Cook, formerly of the Minnesota Vikings, is currently facing a plethora of enticing offers from various teams, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

In an interview on The Rich Eisen Show, Pelissero revealed that Cook has garnered significant interest as a free agent and already has multiple offers on the table.

Cook is expected to command a substantial contract whenever he decides to sign with a new team.

Dalvin Cook, 27, was selected by the Vikings in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. After playing out his rookie contract, he signed a five-year, $63 million extension with the Vikings through 2025. However, the team released him with two years remaining on his contract, where he was due base salaries of $10.4 million and $11.9 million for the next two seasons.

During the 2022 season, Cook started all 17 games for the Vikings, rushing 264 times for 1,173 yards and eight touchdowns. He also contributed to the passing game, recording 39 receptions on 56 targets for 295 yards and two additional touchdowns.

While the exact timeline for Cook’s decision remains uncertain, Pelissero explained that the running back is carefully evaluating his options. Cook intends to choose a team that offers the best combination of fit and financial opportunity.

Pelissero noted that Cook and his agent do not view the end of July, when training camp commences, as a strict deadline. They are willing to exercise patience in the hope that a more lucrative offer than the current ones may emerge.

The market dynamics could change if a team suffers an injury to its starting running back or a promising young player fails to meet expectations, potentially opening up new opportunities for Cook.

Pelissero also highlighted a potential downside of Cook waiting too long to sign: a team that initially showed interest in him might pivot and secure the services of another veteran running back available for a lower price.

Several notable running backs are currently on the market for $3 to $4 million, offering teams an alternative to waiting for Cook’s decision.

Nevertheless, Pelissero emphasized that Cook entered the open market in a strong position compared to other running backs this offseason. He is coming off his fourth consecutive 1,000-yard season and has recently resolved a lingering shoulder issue, assuring potential suitors of his physical well-being.

Although Pelissero did not disclose the specific teams that have extended offers to Cook, he mentioned the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, and Denver Broncos as organizations likely to express interest in signing him.

The Dolphins, who engaged in trade discussions for Cook earlier in the offseason, remain in contact with the veteran running back. Cook recently described the Dolphins as a “perfect fit.”

Additionally, other potential landing spots, such as the Jets, have reportedly conducted thorough evaluations of Cook and possess the financial flexibility to meet his salary expectations.
