Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has been fully officially cleared by medical specialists to resume football activities, according to Bills’ general manager Brandon Beane.

The 25-year-old Hamlin, who was drafted out of the University of Pittsburgh in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, suffered cardiac arrest after making a tackle on Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins during the eventually-canceled Monday Night Football Game between the two teams on January 2.

“Every day I’m amazed that my experiences could encourage so many others across the country and even across the world — encourage to pray, encourage to spread love and encourage to keep fighting no matter the circumstances,” Hamlin said during a speech at the NFL Honors earlier this year.

“Sudden cardiac arrest is something I never would have chosen to be a part of my story, but that’s because our own visions are too small even when we think we see the whole picture. My vision was about playing in the NFL and being the best player I could be, but God’s plan was to have a purpose greater than any game in this world.”

Following a few precarious days of recovery at the UC Medical Center in Cincinnati, Hamlin eventually returned to Buffalo where he continued his rehab before being released from the hospital nine days after the incident.

During the time that Hamlin was recovering, a GoFundMe created in support of the 25-year-old raised over $8.7 million. Back in March, Hamlin visited with President Biden at the White House while in Washington D.C. to support the Access to AEDs Act.

Over the course of the 2022 season with the Bills, Hamlin started in 13 games and accounted for 91 total tackles (63 solo and 28 combined), six tackles for losses, and two pass defenses.
