Damar Hamlin’s father Mario addressed the Buffalo Bills via Zoom on Wednesday evening and provided a positive update on his 24-year-old son.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, during the call, Mario Hamlin told the Bills that Damar is “making progress.” Furthermore, Schefter reported that the Bills’ players “needed” the positive update from Hamlin’s family as they begin to prepare for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.

“Damar Hamlin’s father, Mario Hamlin, addressed the entire Bills team on a zoom call Wednesday to personally update everyone in attendance on his son, per source. Mario Hamlin informed the Bills that Damar was making progress and, in the words of one source, ‘the team needed it,'” Schefter tweeted on Thursday morning.

Mario Hamlin’s update is in line with the news we received on Wednesday, which indicated that he was “showing signs of improvement” and that “doctors got promising readings overnight that they had been hoping to see.”

During the first half of the Monday Night Football game between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals, Hamlin had to be revived on the field with CPR and an AED after suffering from cardiac arrest. Hamlin was then transported to nearby UC Medical Center — where he remains in critical condition — and the game was called off. Since the tragic incident, Hamlin’s GoFundMe account has gone viral and has now raised over $7 million and counting.

At this time, while the NFL has yet to make an official announcement on the status of the suspended Bills-Bengals game, all signs seem to be pointing to the matchup being canceled entirely.

Our thoughts are with Damar’s friends, family, teammates, and various loved ones during this difficult time.
