The Philadelphia Eagles are learning how hard it is to keep a championship-caliber team together, as reports indicate that the team is releasing Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay.

Slay has been a Pro Bowler in two of his three seasons with the Eagles and was a key part of a defense that was among the best in the National Football League last year.

Upon seeing the news that his team had cut one of their defensive stalwarts, star wide receiver AJ Brown took to Twitter to share his frustrated reaction to the news by posting a GIF of a brow-furrowing Jonah Hill from The Wolf of Wall Street.

Late last week, it was reported that the Birds had allowed Slay and his agent Drew Rosenhaus to explore a trade.

Drafted as the 36th overall pick by the Detroit Lions in the 2013 NFL Dract, Slay has established himself as one of the league’s best corners, having been named to five Pro Bowls and one All-Pro First Team.

In March 2020, Slay was traded to the Eagles for a third and fifth-round pick and spent the following three seasons with the team.

During his final season in Philadelphia, Slay started all 17 regular season games and racked up 55 total tackles, 14 pass defenses, and three interceptions. Over the course of his career, Slay has started in over 140 games, has made over 500 tackles, and has 26 interceptions.
