Fox Sports recently removed Barstool Sports star Dave Portnoy from its “Big Noon Kickoff” pregame show, a decision that Portnoy blamed on Ohio State coach Ryan Day.

As it turns out, the move may well be due to the fact that Portnoy doesn’t actually know all that much about college football, a fact that he put on full display on Friday.

Portnoy appeared on the Barstool College Football Show, and when host Kayce Smith brought up the “Third Saturday in October” rivalry between Alabama and Tennessee, Portnoy made a comment that he now probably regrets.

Dave Portnoy Didn’t Know That Alabama And Tennessee Were Rivals

“What does that mean?” Portnoy asked Smith. “They always played on the third Saturday? I didn’t know that. I have never heard of that.

“These teams hate each other? Like, more than the casual LSU… You’re telling me, and I know it’s recency, that Tennessee is a bigger rival to Alabama than LSU?”

Thankfully, everyone else on the show quickly put Portnoy back in line. But not before receiving criticism from all across the college football world.

“Until a couple weeks ago, this is someone that Fox deemed credible enough to sit behind a desk and deliver commentary on this sport,” one fan wrote.

“Hadn’t really paid attention because I don’t watch any of the football Saturday shows but… it now makes complete sense why they kicked this guy off of the Fox show,” said another.

Yikes…can’t blame this one on Ryan Day, Dave.
