Deion Sanders and the University of Colorado has seen a large number of top football players enter the transfer portal over the last few weeks. It is a concerning trend for the Buffaloes.

Although they are not the only team to see a significant amount of talent leave, they are coming off of a rough end to last season and don’t seem to have much of an answer to the departures.

Running back Alton McCaskill IV is perhaps the biggest loss to date. Although he only played in four games last season before taking a redshirt, the former three-star recruit (who had 32 scholarship offers including Alabama) was one of the best players in the country as a freshman at Houston in 2021 and earned AAC Rookie of the Year honors.

McCaskill ran for 961 yards and 16 touchdowns with 113 yards and two scores as a pass-catcher.

It is unclear as to what played out in Boulder. However, Dylan Edwards is going to be the starter and McCaskill would have been a very productive No. 2. Not anymore!

He is back in the transfer portal and has two years of eligibility remaining— which upset Colorado athletic director Rick George.

UPDATE: Alton McCaskill IV refutes the following statement made by an account that appeared to be his father on social media.

“Please do not condone ANY of this. This is not me and not apart of me at ALL . FALSE opinions ‼️”

“DO NOT BELIEVE THIS MAN I DO NOT CONDONE ANYTHING HE SAYS THIS IS A STRANGER FOR ALL I KNOW”

“Statement is not true!!! I don’t not have relations with this man. Please check my page for official statement”

According to what appeared to be his dad in a since-deleted post on X, the starting job was McCaskill’s biggest priority.

If my sons not RB1 We Gotta Go….

He was ready last year!

He’s a 100% this year!

Unfortunately have to find another home where there’s no favoritism and he is valued, appreciated and has no doubts about RB1…

He is the best RB in Colorado…But He Not settling!

Thank you Colorado for your hospitality!

UPDATE: Alton McCaskill IV’s official statement refutes the above.

The mystery continues…

A lot of schools are surely going to reach out to McCaskill. It will be curious to see where he ends up, and if the RB1 job is guaranteed.
