Deion Sanders’ Singular Concern About Caleb Williams In The NFL Also Translates To Shedeur

Deion Sanders does not want Shedeur Sanders to be drafted by an NFL team that plays in cold weather. It is something that concerns him about the next level.

However, unless he and his son refuse to play for certain teams, that decision is not up to them.

Coach Prime’s comments stem from his thoughts about Caleb Williams. The former Heisman Trophy winner is likely to be selected first overall by the Chicago Bears in April after playing two seasons at USC and one season at Oklahoma. That could lead to an adjustment period come November!

Deion Sanders told Chris Russo that he has concerns about how Williams will fare in the frigid temperatures during an appearance on SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio.

Let me tell you something that I have a problem with. And this kid can flat out play, I think he’s the best one on the board this year for sure.

A kid that’s coming from California for the last couple years, right? And went to Oklahoma.

That’s not terribly cold. Chicago’s cold, man.

You gotta think about that kind of stuff when you’re taking a young man. Like see, when you take a guy from Ohio State and you bring him to Chicago, okay, I could understand that.

But from California to Chicago? Not only that, they added what? One or two more games in the NFL. Seventeen games. Come on, man. You gotta factor in that stuff. That stuff matters.

Colorado hosted the Trojans last season. The Pro Football Hall of Famer has seen Williams lead his team to victory in a 48-41 shootout in which he threw for 400+ yards and six touchdowns.

Sanders knows that the expected No. 1 pick is good. His concern is with the weather.

And it does not only apply to Williams. It also applies to Shedeur Sanders— who will play one final season with the Buffaloes this fall before turning pro.

The 22-year-old grew up in Texas and spent two years in Mississippi before Colorado. Boulder can be cold, but as Deion has said in the past, it’s really not that cold. Especially during football season.

He does not want Shedeur to end up somewhere cold like Williams.

I don’t want my kid going nowhere cold next year. He grew up in Texas. He played in Jackson, played in Colorado. Season’s over before it gets cold in Colorado. I’m just thinking way ahead. I don’t want that for him.

Fortunately, less than half of the NFL falls into the “cold” category.

  • Chicago
  • Green Bay
  • Kansas City
  • Buffalo
  • New Jersey (Jets & Giants)
  • Washington
  • Baltimore
  • Cleveland
  • Pittsburgh
  • Cincinnati
  • Denver

Only the Broncos, Steelers, Commanders, Browns, and both New York teams are possible suitors for a starting quarterback in next year’s draft — as of right now. A lot of things will change over the next 13 months. All six teams might draft a signal-caller this year.

However, should any of the 11 “cold weather” teams consider drafting Shedeur next year, they will need to do their due diligence to ensure that he (and his dad) are on board. Archie Manning caught a lot of heat when Eli chose not to play for the Chargers, but things blew over pretty quickly and it worked out in the long run. Perhaps Deion would be willing to take the same approach?
