Colorado had the brakes beat off of them during its college football game against Northwestern on Saturday. Deion Sanders had to address some his players, who were apparently smiling and laughing in the locker room after getting embarrassed.
Is that an indictment on the players or the coaches?
A college football coach is responsible for his team, both in victory and defeat. How they act reflects on him.
Northwestern won the college football game in blowout fashion.
Saturday marked the final college football game played at Martin Stadium— which is normally used for lacrosse and soccer. The 12,000-seat lakeside venue was constructed in 2024 as a temporary home for the Northwestern football team while its main stadium, Ryan Field, underwent a complete and total rennovation from the ground up. Demolition and construction took more than two years to finish. The Wildcats will play their first game at their new stadium against Penn State in two weeks.
They played the entire 2024 and 2025 seasons at the temporary stadium as well as the first three home games of 2026. It was not the nicest stadium in the country but it was actually pretty sweet, right on the bank of Lake Michigan.
Colorado did not think so. A group of players were caught talking trash about the temporary stadium in the moments leading up to kickoff. “This place f—— sucks,” they said. “S— sounds like a f—— library!” Check it out:

The game did not go well for them. The Buffaloes lost 41-7. They were out-gained on offense in terms of both rushing and passing yardage, had the ball for 13 less minutes than their opponent, and committed more penalties and turned the ball over SEVEN times. It was UGLY.
This is not a knock on Northwestern. David Braun continues to build a formidable program in Evanston. Quarterback Aidan Chiles was awesome. The Wildcats were dominant, especially on defense.
However, Colorado lost the game just as much as Northwestern won. The Buffaloes were sloppy in all three phases of the game. The defense was especially bad. Offensive coordinator Brennan Marion and quarterback Julian Lewis were not on the same page.
Deion Sanders had to stop Colorado players from laughing.
One might think the mood was pretty somber in the Colorado locker room after a 34-point loss to Northwestern. That was, apparently, not the case.
Deion Sanders said during his postgame press conference that he had to tell some of his players to stop laughing. They were joking. They were smiling. The head coach was shocked by their reaction.

Should he be surprised? Coach Prime is responsible for the culture of his program. How the players act and react are a direct reflection on their head coach. They are players that he brought in to a program that he designed.
