Deion Sanders’ daughter, Shelomi, is in the transfer portal. A guard on the Colorado women’s basketball team, she recently wrapped up her freshman season in Boulder.

After just one season on campus, though, she’s dumping the program to find a better fit. Coach Prime wasn’t too fond of that decision, and he voiced his concern in a recent interview.

The move will be Shelomi Sanders’ second transfer in as many years. She originally began her career at Jackson State, her father’s previous stop, before following the family to Colorado.

With the Buffs, she appeared in five games, averaging just 2.4 minutes on the court while scoring 0.6 points per night.

According to Deion Sanders, she doesn’t have a future destination locked in.

“It was stupid! You’ve got to get a team before you enter the portal,” he said. “That’s what I would advise… I know, ‘Well, it’s illegal.’ Everybody knows somebody, that knows somebody, that knows somebody.”

He didn’t disagree with the actual transfer decision, but rather, the fact that she’s going in blind.

Like the old adage, “Don’t leave a job before you have a job,” Prime doesn’t think it’s smart to hop in the portal just to test the market. He believes if you want to transfer, you need to have an idea of where you’re headed first.

Deion Sanders also wanted to quickly shut down any narratives about his future in Boulder following his daughter’s transfer decision.

“Kids follow their parents, parents don’t follow their kids,” he said when asked about his commitment to the program.

Coach Prime says the transfer has no effect on his job status, and he’ll continue supporting his daughter from afar, no matter where she ends up.

He just wished she would’ve gone about the process in a different way.
