Deion Sanders Reveals Colorado’s Christmas List From Transfer Portal

Christmas may be over, but Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has an extensive list for Santa of players he wants out of the transfer portal.

Sanders and company shocked the college football world when he began his first season in Boulder with a 3-0 record.

But as the season went on, his team’s roster limitations became increasingly evidence and the Buffs went just 1-8 down the stretch.

Now the polarizing head coach is looking for reinforcements in the transfer portal, and he knows exactly what he needs.

“Dang, I 👀the portal doing the bank-head bounce. Just when I thought Santa was on his way back to the North Pole he dipped off. Santa please drop another DT, CB ,LB & 1 more Pass Rusher to Boulder. I BELIEVE Santa I BELIEVE ! #CoachPrime @CUBuffsFootball,” Sanders tweeted on Tuesday.

The Buffs need help at several spots. But according to Sanders, defensive tackle, cornerback, linebacker and pass rusher are the spots he wants the most.

His list somehow fails to include an offensive lineman or two, despite Colorado struggling mightily to run the ball or protect quarterback Shedeur Sanders in 2023.

Though that may be because the Buffaloes are on the verge of signing five-star high school offensive lineman Jordan Seaton.

Colorado signed just five players on Early Signing Day, which among the fewest in the nation. Sanders’ first full high school recruiting class ranked just 98th in the 247 Sports rankings.

The Buffs have already been active in the portal prior to Coach Prime’s tweet.

They’ve secured commitments from:

  • UConn transfer Yakiri Walker (6-foot-3, 270 pounds)
  • Indiana transfer Kahlil Benson (6-foot-6, 310 pounds)
  • UTEP transfer Justin Mayers (6-foot-4, 280 pounds)
  • Houston transfer Tyler Johnson (6-foot-5, 320 pounds)
  • Jackson State transfer Amari Ward (6-foot-4, 310 pounds)

Johnson, the biggest name on the list, was a former top-100 recruit out of high school and an All-American Athletic Conference selection in 2022.

Will Sanders’ plan work? Only time will tell.

But it’s clear he knows exactly what he wants.
