Boogie Cousins was having a pleasant offseason. Just last week, the newly minted Laker was spotted in the Bahamas for his bachelor party with fellow NBA studs Draymond Green, John Wall, and Eric Bledsoe. Cousins drilled seven threes in a row on a Bahamian pickup court in a bathing suit and sandals. All was well.
The good life ended this week when news broke that the Lakers center suffered a torn ACL while “working out” in Las Vegas on Monday, almost certainly squandering the one-year, $3.5 million deal he signed to play with LeBron and AD. The injury comes in the wake of a torn Achilles with the Pelicans and torn quadriceps muscle with Golden State, all in the past two years.
Initial reports described Boogie getting injured while “working out,” but video footage obtained by TMZ reveals that the four-time NBA All Star ended his 2019-2020 season while going up for a simple layup at the gym against some commoners.
Cousins let out a loud scream during the non-contact injury, and everyone in the gym immediately realized they witnessed something big.
Tough to watch.
As an injury-ridden 29-year-old, it will be interesting to see what Cousins’ market value is after next season. Is it time to add him to the “what if” category?
