Desmond Ridder’s Team Watching Him Run The Fastest 40-Yard Dash Of Any Active QB Is Electric

Desmond Ridder is one of the most unique quarterback prospects in the upcoming NFL Draft class. Although he helped lead Cincinnati to some of the program’s highest highs over the past few seasons, there are a lot of questions about his ability to transition to the next level.

Some scouts believe that he is going to boom, others believe that he is going to bust.

Regardless of how he pans out, there is no denying his athleticism and speed. At 6-foot-3, 211 pounds, Ridder is (tied for) the third-largest quarterback in this year’s draft class behind Kenny Pickett (by 1/4 inch) and Cole Kelley.

Despite his size, he can move.

During Thursday night’s 40-yard dash drill, Ridder out-ran everybody at his position in two different ways. Not only was he the fastest of the 15 NFL Combine participants (excluding those who chose not to run— Malik Willis and Matt Corral being the most notable), but he was the fastest of all current, active NFL quarterbacks— excluding Justin Fields who did not get a chance to run at the NFL Combine.

Ridder, at 6-foot-3, 211 pounds, ran a 4.49-second (unofficial) 40, which is blazing fast. To put that number in perspective, the Cincinnati quarterback was faster than 11 of the Top 20 wide receivers and tight ends who ran on Thursday.

He was MOVING moving.

Ridder’s run, though still unofficial, beat Marcus Mariota by three seconds, Russell Wilson by six and Patrick Mahomes by quite some distance. The fastest 40-yard dash run by a quarterback at the combine is Michael Vick’s 4.33 in 2001, followed by Robert Griffin III’s 4.38 in 2012.

Last year, although the Combine was cancelled due to COVID-19, Fields ran a 4.44. Ridder was not far behind.

Back in Cincinnati, all of Ridder’s teammates joined together for a watch party and their reaction is priceless.

The boys were hyped, Ridder was hyped and all of the NFL organizations who have Ridder on their boards were hyped.
