Ex-Raiders 1st Round Pick Among Six Dead In High Speed Collision

Former NFL player and Raiders 1st round pick, cornerback D.J. Hayden, has lost his life in a high-speed collision at age 33.

The incident occurred early Saturday morning in Houston, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.

According to the Houston Police Department, Hayden was one of six people who lost their lives when a vehicle ran a red light on Fannin Street near the Gulf Freeway.

Among the victims was also former Houston Cougars football player, cornerback Zach McMillan, who was among four people pronounced dead at the scene.

Hayden, was previously known for surviving a life-threatening injury to his heart during a practice accident in 2012. He made a full recovery and went on to have an NFL career spanning eight seasons.

Hayden was drafted 12th overall pin the 2013 NFL draft, playing four seasons with the Raiders from 2013 to 2016. Hayden later joined the Lions and Jaguars, concluding his career on Washington’s off-season roster, though he was released before playing a game.
