DJ Uiagalelei has not played a game since September 28th when he injured his throwing hand against SMU. He’s since undergone surgery, putting his status in doubt for the remainder of the 2024 campaign.

Given the timing of the setback, Uiagalelei has an opportunity to secure a medical redshirt though he’d need a waiver having already played in five contests.

Still, the option to return is on the table should the NCAA approve.

With that being said, it seems unlikely that he’d be back in Tallahassee with how his season played out on the field. In those five starts, Uiagalelei completed a career-worst 54% of his passes while throwing more interceptions than touchdowns.

The Seminoles went just 1-4 in those matchups.

Uiagalelei was removed from the action after suffering that injury, a move that would’ve likely been made had he not sustained the setback. He’d already thrown three picks on 12-of-30 passing.

Florida State’s been forced to go in a different direction at quarterback, and while the results haven’t been much better, handing the keys back over to Uiagalelei would be a risk.

That means he probably has a decision to make.

He could pack it in and prep for the NFL. He could submit his redshirt waiver with hopes of playing out his final season elsewhere. His dad posted a cryptic comment on social media possibly relating to the situation.

Will DJ Uiagalelei transfer from Florida State?

What does it mean?!

Is it about DJ Uiagalelei? Or his brother, Matayo, who’s currently at Oregon after leaving his home state of California? We don’t know!

Still, the message fanned flames surrounding another potential move.

Uiagalelei has already transferred twice throughout his college career. After three seasons at Clemson, he left for Oregon State. Despite having maybe his best campaign in Corvallis, he moved onto Florida State after seeing his head coach bail for the Big Ten.

While the production has been lacking this season, there would certainly be interest given his previous five-star rating. We’ll soon find out if DJ Uiagalelei opts to come back for a sixth NCAA season, and if his father’s post has anything to do with the decision.
